  1. Simple Public License (SimPL) Preamble
  2. This Simple Public License 2.0 (SimPL 2.0 for short) is a plain language implementation
  3. of GPL 2.0. The words are different, but the goal is the same - to guarantee
  4. for all users the freedom to share and change software. If anyone wonders
  5. about the meaning of the SimPL, they should interpret it as consistent with
  6. GPL 2.0. Simple Public License (SimPL) 2.0
  7. The SimPL applies to the software's source and object code and comes with
  8. any rights that I have in it (other than trademarks). You agree to the SimPL
  9. by copying, distributing, or making a derivative work of the software.
  10. You get the royalty free right to:
  11. - Use the software for any purpose;
  12. - Make derivative works of it (this is called a "Derived Work");
  13. - Copy and distribute it and any Derived Work.
  14. If you distribute the software or a Derived Work, you must give back to the
  15. community by:
  16. - Prominently noting the date of any changes you make;
  17. - Leaving other people's copyright notices, warranty disclaimers, and license
  18. terms in place;
  19. - Providing the source code, build scripts, installation scripts, and interface
  20. definitions in a form that is easy to get and best to modify;
  21. - Licensing it to everyone under SimPL, or substantially similar terms (such
  22. as GPL 2.0), without adding further restrictions to the rights provided;
  23. - Conspicuously announcing that it is available under that license.
  24. There are some things that you must shoulder:
  25. - You get NO WARRANTIES. None of any kind;
  26. - If the software damages you in any way, you may only recover direct damages
  27. up to the amount you paid for it (that is zero if you did not pay anything).
  28. You may not recover any other damages, including those called "consequential
  29. damages." (The state or country where you live may not allow you to limit
  30. your liability in this way, so this may not apply to you);
  31. The SimPL continues perpetually, except that your license rights end automatically
  32. if:
  33. - You do not abide by the "give back to the community" terms (your licensees
  34. get to keep their rights if they abide);
  35. - Anyone prevents you from distributing the software under the terms of the
  36. SimPL.
  37. License for the License
  38. You may do anything that you want with the SimPL text; it's a license form
  39. to use in any way that you find helpful. To avoid confusion, however, if you
  40. change the terms in any way then you may not call your license the Simple
  41. Public License or the SimPL (but feel free to acknowledge that your license
  42. is "based on the Simple Public License").
