  196. <p>The tracemalloc module is a debug tool to trace memory blocks allocated by
  197. Python. It provides the following information:</p>

  199. <li><p>Traceback where an object was allocated</p></li>
  200. <li><p>Statistics on allocated memory blocks per filename and per line number:
  201. total size, number and average size of allocated memory blocks</p></li>
  202. <li><p>Compute the differences between two snapshots to detect memory leaks</p></li>

  204. <p>To trace most memory blocks allocated by Python, the module should be started
  205. as early as possible by setting the <span class="target" id="index-0"></span><a class="reference internal" href="../using/cmdline.html#envvar-PYTHONTRACEMALLOC"><code class="xref std std-envvar docutils literal notranslate"><span class="pre">PYTHONTRACEMALLOC</span></code></a> environment
